According to the popular home design gurus, wallpaper is, once again, becoming a popular trend in homes. Are you in love with the idea of picking out new wallpaper for a home remodel but don't know where to start? Here are a few tips that are good to know before you get started.

1. Test your wallpaper first. Most wallpaper samples are small, so they don't really give you an idea of what the room will look like when completed. The best way you can try out the design you have chosen is to buy a roll of the actual wallpaper. Using blue painter's tape, hang the roll from the top of a wall to the floor. This will help you judge your selection better.

2. Grass cloth adds depth and texture without any pattern. This is good for bedrooms.

3. Steam and water are hard on wallpaper. It's best not to hang wallpaper near your kitchen sink or stove. Also, a bathroom's shower and/or bathtub will age wallpaper faster. Try hanging wallpaper in a powder room instead.

4. Metallic wallpaper can scratch just like metal. Be careful if you have kids or pets. The same holds true for wallpapers with a super matte finish.

5. Flocked papers will get dusty. Use the soft brush attachment on your vacuum to get rid of the dust.

6. Old houses with crooked walls are best covered in wallpaper with busy patterns.
