I found that shutting down my printer when not in use will increase the life of your ink cartridges...since doing this not too long ago my ink seems to go on forever...the heat from keeping the printer on all the time dries out the ink

maybe so but the print head isn't heated until the system calls for the head to squeeze out droplets of ink. there's zero to 48 volts applied across the print head resistance. the seats applied to the print head in the park position really doesn't seal airtight so there's always the chance the ink dries out.
