  • Reading a torpedo level

I have a straight forward Stanley Pro I-Beam level. Bubble inthe middle of the 2 pairs of lines you are level, touching the outside lines you have a 2 percent grade or 1/4" per foot grade for drainage....

In comes my 2 torpedo levels. They may be older because i cannot find examples on the internet:

    the central vial is graduated 0, 1/8th, 1/4th, 3/8th, 1/2.

how do you read this thing to be level?

If the bubble is on the left of the zero -just touching the zero then it is level?

It doesn;t seem there is much room for being unlevel going the other way and you could be off.

So if the bubble isn't SQUASHED and spreads out between the left side and the ZERO this is level.
It\'s sometimes better to be lucky than smart.

take a known level and place it on a surface. shim either side til it shows level. take your level in question and place it atop the accurate level. now read what it's bubble says.
