Disposal is leaking a lot after removing a glass jam.....

    Hi all.

We just had a small glass get caught in the disposal. We got all of out using the wrench; however now the disposal is leaking a lot. Why would this be?

Can it be fixed? Or did the glass do some damage to the disposal?

    Thanks!!

below the grinding plate on the motor shaft is a ceramic and carbon spring loaded seal. one side of it is free to spin with the grinding plate, the other side is affixed to the motor end bell. this rotating seal keeps water out of the motor. glass can be broken down into extremely small particles that act like sandpaper on the seal rendering it useless. I doubt if you'll be able to get the grinder plate out to access the seal. I'm afraid you'll need to get another disposal unit.
