Dap Butyl Flex rubber sealant

I have been using Dap Butyl Flex rubber Sealant for small repairs to gutters etc...but I find it very difficult to work with as it sticks to the putty knife and will not spread very well...any tips

if its anything like silicone caulk, a wet finger works swell.

HayZee....I tried that but didn't work as it's like working with glue...BUT.. I tried putting some butter on the putty knife before spreading and it worked great..any oily substance would work I guess
