  • Framing members question...

All the big DIY stores now have these displays of composite decking...it doesn't warp, is low maintenance, works like wood without the disadvantages of wood, doesn't cause hangnails or weight gain, etc etc etc.

It seems to me that composites are a good, efficient way to recyle wood and/or make good use of the trees we cut down, less waste among other things. Is anyone out there producing composite members for framing?

    Just curious.

Although I am not familiar with any products like you desire I would like to make a comment here. Do not be fooled into thinking that composite wood materials are environmentally friendly recycled woods. In most cases composites are made by harvesting immature wood and chipping it to the desired material.

Thank you, lazypup. My question was more about satisfying curiosity than shopping for any specific product. I wasn't aware that the composites were made the way you describe; I always just assumed that they were using up othewise unusable material.
