Brand new Member - Gotta cat urine question....
We are going to replace carpet that has been saturated by my lovely cat while we are moving and he has been home alone. The tack strip is completely destroyed. Is there a treatment to the concrete slab other than bleaching it to make sure the smell is removed??

If you are stripping the floor to bare concrete, I would consider scrubbing the concrete with a solution of TSP (tri-sodium phosphate) and a stiff fiber push broom. Use a shop vac to extract the water.

TSP is an inexpensive powdered commercial cleaning agent that is used in the same manner as Spic & span floor cleaner. You can find it at any paint store, hardware, or home supply center in the paint dept. It is excellant for cleaning most surfaces in prep for paint as well.

Once that is done, if you still have traces of the odor you could consider painting the concrete with a floor and deck paint to seal it.

Nature's Miracle is the BEST stuff for this! Get it at most any pet supply store. Sometimes Meijer's carries it, too. It's an enzyme product that DOES break it down. We have a few spray bottles around in consideration of the occsional 'accident' by one of the pets. (yes, there's more than one...)

By the way, get one of those fluorescent black lights. Shine that around a darkened room where you have suspicions as to if any 'accidents' exist. It'll glow it right up for you!

You'll be lucky if anything you try to clean it with removes the smell. If all else fails you can always seal it in with a coat of cement paint.
