replace ceiling tile?

I have a rather low ceiling, with hideous ceiling tiles, in my family room. Behind the tile are the floor boards from the above floor. Is is possible to remove the tiles and sheetrock it? I have't been ablw to find any info anywhere. Thanks

I don't see why you couldn't, if you have floor joist that are 16 or 24" on center then you could remove the tiles and install 5/8" drywall to the ceiling. What type of info are you looking for?
