Hi All!
I'm getting darn near close to finishing the framing for my basement exterior walls (yeah, LOTS more to go after this!). Got to the point where the "new" frame wall comes to the existing exterior door, and thought, "hmm, what now?" How do I close the gap between the exterior/foundation wall and the frame wall (the frame wall is set about 1/2" - 1" out from the foundation wall)? I figured to use 1x6 to bring back to the exterior jack stud (no king stud there - it's in the poured concrete foundation), but that still leaves a gap at the bottom plate. Also, should I mitre back the frame wall (45degrees?) on the door's hinge side? Seems if I bring the framing straight into the jack stud (trimmer) then I'll be adding 5" directly perpendicular to the swing opening - likely limiting the door opening/swing? Anybody have a better way to do this? Thanks!
