  • Disconnecting a gas line for gas fireplace

We are replacing our gas fireplace with a pellet stove. We have to disconnect the gas line. We found the shut off valve where the line for the stove is connected. Is it possible to cap off at the shutoff valve or should it be done somewhere else in the line. Is there any safety other than turning off the valve we should be aware of.

Thank you to any one who can help us.

Yes you can safely cap it off at the shut off valve.

If you want to get really adventurous then trace the line back to the nearest elbow and remove the pipe to there and then cap it off.

REMEMBER though with the latter option you will need to turn off the gas supply leading to this line.
