  • Need advice re: insecure playset

We have a playset which is not totally anchored on one side. Technically, people claim it really doesn't need it. The side that concerns me is basically a triangle of wooden beams. The problem is that when my five year old son gets really cranking on the swing, the base of the triangle comes off the ground about four inches. It won't flip over, but it gives my wife the heebeejeebees. What is the best way to anchor this? Should it be anchored any better than it is now?

While it is common for some of those swingset legs to lift slightly the chances of the set actually tipping over are slim to none, but on the other hand, just seeing those legs lift off the ground can be very unnerving to a concerned parent.

If for no other reason than to keep peace in the family you might consider getting a couple of the corkscrew type dog anchors and screwing them into the ground next to the legs, then attach the leg to the anchor so it won't lift.
