  • Rentals at a Hardware Store

    Hi all.

I work at an Ace Hardware in Chicago. My boss wants me to put together a proposal for a rental program. I have been sitting here brainstorming what to rent, and I have about 40 items that might help someone eventually if I had them for rent.

I would like to know what you all think would be good items to rent. Tools that are too expensive to buy for one job. Fun stuff too, I would like to rent out our popcorn machine, and possibly am inflatable game of some sort.

    Thanks everyone!!!

OK here-- wallpaper steamer, texture ceiling sprayer, electric or gas pavement breaker, gas powered cement saw, water cooled tile saw, cotton candy machine, three tiered chocolate pump, garden tiller (troy built) "Ditch-witch" trenching machine, gas or electric wood splitter, propane salamander heaters, kerosene heaters, 1HP angle grinders, tongue & groove edge nailers, diamond core boring machine, hydraulic conduit bender, pvc conduit heater, electronic cable locator, pneumatic and gas powered nailers.

PEX tubing is becoming increasingly popular and the plumbing codes require all joints to be made by means of code approved crimpers. There are commonly three sizes of tubing used and each requires a separate crimper which currently sells for about $125 each plus you must use a Go-No Go guage to check the crimps. Let the word get around that you have both the fittings and you rent the tools and you will most likely corner the DIY and Home Repair market in your area.

Wood chippers are great to rent. I like to rent one every year or 2 to clear old brances off the property, but I dont have the space to store one and don't want to maintain one either. So these are great for rental shops.
