  • Is my TV dead?

My TV has no picture. I can hear sound, so I know I am on a channel, but the most I ever get is a little blue smudge on the screen. Mostly it is just blank, like the tv is off. It is a sony triniton, is there anything I can do to test and see if it needs to go to the repair shop or the trash? TV's are cheap now, and I'd rather just buy a new one than spend the same repairing this one....

its a little difficult for you to check and a little dangerous but if you don't have the high voltage present at the anode connection - that button in the side of the tube with the wire connected to it - should have about 35 thousand volts on it. Like I said dangerous to you. They make a meter to check it but for the average homeowner how many times you gonna check the high voltage

How old is your TV? If it is 10+ year old, perhaps its time to get a new one. There are a plethora of tv sets out there now. Get a HD tv set and depending on budget there are your plasma, lcd, rear projections and different sizes for your viewing.

I still have a working vacuum tube RCA cabinet tv. But for everyday use, I have a 58" rear projection in a home theater setup. Its very nice.

It is just a 19" trinitron for the kitchen, so it shouldn't cost much to replace. Thanks for your input!
