  • UPVC window budges at one side

    So I buys this house and gets started refurbing. I find the window in a bedroom gives a cm or two at one side, and the wind can whistle through a bit (some plaster missing to inside). As a novice this troubles me somewhat.

    Do I:

    a) Get up some ladders, remove the external bead, take out the sealed unit, refix, mortar outside, plaster & caulk inside;

    b) Stay warm indoors, and see if spraying foam at it stops it budging (ok I still need to plaster up etc).

    For some reason I am swaying towards (b).

    Any advice appreciated.

    Emily,

    Welcome to the forum. If the window is securely attached other than one side jamb having a void behind it, I would use the low expanding foam spray. If you use the high expansion spray you will bow the jamb in.

    If the window is not secure you should use wood shimes between the jamb and rough opening and then screw the the window jamb to the rough opening. Then fill the void with foam.

    Good luck, Jim
