The atic stairs are 12 years old and the door is now dropping down about 1 to 1.5 when we close it. Is their a way to adjust the door to close tight??

you could try adjusting the springs on the door -or- purchasing some door jamb latches. these get installed in the door jamb and look like half ball bearings sticking out. a latch plate captures these balls when the door is closed.
