  • sliding shower door removal

One of our bathrooms has a sliding glass door. It is mounted on the edge of the tub, and screwed into the tiled wall, as far as I can tell. I really want to get rid of this head-gash-waiting-to-happen, but I'm afraid of what lies underneath. Besides a thorough cleaning and caulk scraping, I know there will be holes in the tile. What should I fill these with? Caulk? Grout?
    it never stops. ever.

    Patrick,

If you are lucky and the holes where drilled in the grout line then patch them with the same grout color. If the holes where drilled in a tile then I would try to find a silicone that was close to the color of the tile to fill in.

    Good luck, Jim

Please note the advice below is useful only if the wall tiles are not set into concrete but set onto wall board (hardi-backer or otherwise.) If the tile is set into concrete (with a metal mesh backing) it will be far more difficult to extracate the tiles you want to replace and I would suggest going with Jimmers suggestions. You would be able to tell by looking into a plumbing access panel to see if there is metal mesh visible...

If the holes are in the tile, you can also replace those few tiles if you can find exact matches. I use a hammer and a small nail to clean out the grout around the tile and then (somewhat gently) chisel the tile out, mastik and replace with a new tile and then re-grout. It really is pretty easy.

We have the same problem on our tub/shower. Any advice on how to remove the metal track embedded in the bathtub?

          Thanks!
