  • Maytag LA612 barrel rubs at top

This machine spins ok when the clamp and top piece is off but burns a belt with it on because it won't turn.

It is a close fit at the front, big gaps on the sides, and a good gap at the back.

    The bearings seem ok.

This drum has concrete around the top edge.

Can it be fixed? Thanks. Bob.

Do you mean the inner wash tub is not centered in the outer tub??

Is the inner tub loose on the transmission shaft?

That's the only thing other than a main tub bearing problem (or the tub worn or rusted out where the bearing is) that could result in your stated symptom. And even if the tub was loose I would think it should still be basically centered.

The bearing should be in the center of the outer tub. The transmission shaft goes through that bearing and the inner tub is mounted onto it. The position of the inner tub depends on where the transmission shaft is. The only way the inner tub could not be centered was if the transmission shaft wasn't centered either or the tub was no longer attached to that shaft.
