Here are some fixes for the Kenmore Elite HE3 dryer (model 110.4708x series) when clothes aren't drying or there's no heat:
- Check the lint trap, even if it looks clean. Wash it with warm, soapy water to remove fabric softener buildup that can block airflow. A clogged lint screen is one of the most common causes of poor drying performance.
- Inspect the exhaust vent outside the house. Look for any lint buildup or obstructions like bird nests. Restricted airflow can cause the dryer to overheat and trigger safety shutoffs.
- Test the door latch mechanism. This model uses a two-stage latch that should click twice when closed. If the door doesn’t seal properly, the dryer may run but the heating element won't activate.
- Check the thermal fuse located on the blower housing. It’s a small white component with two wires. If it's blown (shows no continuity when tested with a multimeter), it needs to be replaced.
- Verify the circuit breaker. Electric dryers use 240V, typically supplied by a double-pole breaker. Sometimes only one side trips, which can cause the dryer to turn on but not produce heat.
- Clean the moisture sensor strips inside the drum. Use a damp cloth and mild detergent to remove any fabric softener or dryer sheet residue. Buildup on the sensor bars can cause the dryer to shut off early, thinking clothes are dry when they’re not.
