I have a whirlpool side by side with a tapping noise (model #ED5HAXSS01) Other than that fridge is working fine. 2 repairman came - 1 said it was the compressor and could last 15 yrs like that, the other said it was the spring inside the compressor. Either way they both wanted to replace the compressor. Any other ideas?

If the sounds is internal to the compressor, the compressor would have to be replaced to correct the condition. The compressor itself can not be repaired. In such a case your choice would be to live with it until it fails completely (which could be years... or not), replace the compressor or replace the whole refrigerator.Either way they both wanted to replace the compressor.
