  • Whirpool fridge noise ?

    Hello,

I have a Canadian WP fridge model #yed22dkxdw01 built in 1995.

Today it started making some noises from the bottom. I took the cardboard cover off the back and found the noise to be coming from the fan.( I think )

The blades are clean and when I unplugged the fridge I could spin the fan freely.

Can I oil where the fan shaft meets the motor ?

Could there be another problem down there ?

    Thanks in advance!

    What kind of noise?

There is likely only 2 places most sounds can originate from in that area, either the condenser fan motor or the compressor.

You could but I doubt it would help for long... if at all.

If the sounds are from that motor, its bearings could be worn in which case the motor should be replaced before it fails completely and causes food loss or more serious damage like to the compressor ($$$+).

Just oiling at the motor shaft is unlikely to get oil to the bearings where the problem likely is. The motor itself is not designed to be oiled, just replaced if defective. They are a 'throw-away' design.

Could there be another problem down there ?
In that area? Only the compressor usually.
