  • Sears Kenmore Refrigerator, Defrost Board

Have Sears model 106.7425340 been working fine for about 7 years, about two months ago freezer started accumulating ice on back wall covering the defrost heater. Local repair person checked heater, defrost thermostat (bimetal disc), both checked okay, then replaced adaptive control board with a Whirlpool part. Worked okay for about 45 days, then same problem, heater and defrost thermostat checked okay, replaced adaptive control board again. Worked okay for about 10 days, now beginning to show signs of ice buildup again.

What is really frustrating is, the board's warranty period does not restart when the first board was replaced, it just continues. This is what my local guy told me, which sounds weird.

My local guy says never run into this before where two board failures in a row. He is willing to help, but is at loss. I asked if he could rewire it so it was just a timer based defrost, but he said the wiring would not allow this change.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Well it appears the second replacement adaptive control board is still working, as the compressor shut off and defrost was turned on. I overreacted, because a very slight amount of frost had accumulated on the cover, with no defrost until late evening time. My apologizes to all.
