    Maytag LA710 froze up

Is there oil, gear lube, or grease inside the transmission? The tub will turn with a wrench, but very hard. Thanks.

You mean like the tub would turn on spin?

The insides of the transmission is for creating the agitation motion. The transmission locks up on spin and the whole transmission turns with the tub. If the tub won't turn, there might be a problem with the brake or the tub bearing the transmission goes through into the tub. There might also be the possibility of something caught between the tubs or around the transmission shaft.

You can find some service information about that Maytag washer design at the following link.

the transmission uses a planetary gear drive, in that a small gear turns a set of large gears that impart the agitation within the transmission. oil used inside is the viscosity of molasses, 90 grade gear oil. looks almost like tar.
