  • GE Profile Artica PSS26PSSSS ice ball/water puddles

We own a 2006 GE Profile Artica PSS26PSSSS side by side refrigerator. We purchased a 5 year warranty on it. Over the 5 years, we had 4 calls... mostly for not maintaining temperature. While still under warranty, the GE factory rep advised us to defrost the refrigerator manually to eliminate the ice ball that had formed in the refrigerator. It didn't work, so 2 weeks later he replaced the computer board. THis seemed to work fine until this summer (just when the warranty ended) and we noticed some ice in the refrigerator, but tons of water puddling at the bottom of the refrigerator AND running down the side of the refrigerator wall shared with the freezer. GE Service comes back ($90!) and says its not the seal or defrost line and recommends an ice ball kit for $450. First, the ice ball kit is not part of the refrigerator (it apparently fixes a defect) and second, it may not fix the problem. The GE factory guy seemed stumped. I have to wipe down the bottom, sides and pull out all shelves 2x a day to remove moisture in the refrigerator. Items do stay cold and appear to be at the right temperature. Any advice?

I already replied to your message on this topic posted in another forum. Since this one has some additional description I'll reply to those here.

    : GE PRofile Artica 2006 PSS26PSSSS

That model number is incorrect, it is missing a letter. PSS26PSS_SS

: still have some ice forming in refrigerator

The refrigerator side shouldn't get so cold that water would freeze there. Someone might need to look into why it is. Maybe the controls aren't set properly or there's a problem with the control system?

: Items do stay cold and appear to be at the right temperature

I don't see how that is possible, sorry. Maybe air is not circulating properly resulting in too cold of air in some areas of the fridge compartment??

: and puddles of water in fridge. Need to wipe
: down the sides and bottom of the
    : refrigerator 2x a day. Service call ($90, GE
: factory) said not seal on door or defrost
: line. Recommendeded ice ball kit for $450!.

I'm afraid I'm not sure what part they are suggesting be installed nor what condition they think might be corrected by it.

: Seems bogus and won't solve water running
: down sides of refrigerator and puddling on
    : bottom of refrigerator.

: Please let me know if you have any thoughts.

I don't know what is causing your symptoms, sorry. If you don't have faith in the technician that was out you might want to consider calling the company back and asking to have a different technician come look into it.

BTW If they didn't correct the problem they were asked to, you shouldn't have to pay an additional service charge... if called back within a reasonable amount of time (usually 30 days at a minimum).
