GE Arctica fridge gets too cold. Set to 37, but is actually 27-31.Model # psi23sgmd bs. Side by side.

We just bought and installed new main control board due to the fridge and freezer both heating up to 70. (A technician came out and said that's what we needed so we bought it and installed it.) Now the freezer seems to be working fine and is at the set temp (0 degrees), but the fridge isn't. We have it set to 37, but is anywhere from 27-31. Any ideas on what is wrong now?

Just wanted to add that the ice maker isn't working either, however it hasn't been working since we bought it from someone 6 months ago. The water dispenser in the door does work though. Not sure if this will help figure out what is wrong or not. It would be nice to get this working too, but right now my main concern it the fridge getting too cold.

If your model has a temperature display, what temperature does the display show the compartment at?

If the displayed temperature is correct, the problem could be the air damper (see the following link) between the compartments malfunctioning. It is what limits air flow into the fridge compartment to control compartment temperature. The main control tells the damper when to open and close.

Either that or the temperature sensor that monitors the temperature in that compartment is malfunctioning and sending incorrect temperature reading to the control. That sensor might be defective and need to be replaced if the temperature display was incorrect.

It is usually mounted in the air damper and is included with the replacement damper asm. above if replaced.
