Hotpoint dishwasher problem, not disposal related

    hi,
got a 5 y/o HOTPOINT dishwasher with the following symptoms:

    1. its not cleaning the dishes, there's always residue after its done
    2. the dial to start the washer is off, meaning the start position keeps moving and not where its suppose to be. so in order to start the dishwasher, you have to turn the dial and look for the start position.
    3. sometimes it doesn't drain completely, sometimes it does.

anyone have any suggestions? should i just buy a new one?

If your knob on the timer is weirded out you can replace it for relatively cheap. If it's the timer I'd guess $100 or better depends. Obviously if its a timer in a 5yo d/w It's time to Yank that bugger out and put it to rest. If it's the knob replace it. then run a gallon of apple cider vinegar through the d/w for a couple of cycles and take out the crud. Then see how it runs.
