Washer makes loud sound when in spin mode

My GE Washer has recently started making pretty loud sounds when in the spin mode. The noise is like something is about to fall off or the washer is about to burst. I opened the front hood and looked at it and everything looks intact.

What could be causing this? Does it need to be lubricated?

Could be a bad bearing, bad clutch, bad many things.
How old is it?

The Washer is about 5 years old. Can I replace a part or spomething?

If its a roaring noise coming from center of tub most likely the transmission... fm sears 160.00... cheaper elsewhere .... if under 10 yrs old and you still have receipt call GE the part is in warranty but not labor
