  • Jennair stove reporting -FC-

    Hi Folks,

At the weekend we had some granite backsplash fitted. Before the granite could be fixed to the wall I had to remove the old formica stuff that was glued to the wall above the stove. I had previously moved the stove about 6" from the wall with no problems. I moved it out a little more so that I could get better access behind the stove to get the backsplash out. I was using a 36" steel ruler to slide behind the formica so as to separate it from the wall but, for some reason, that didn't work. When I gave up that idea the stove started to beep at me and flashed up -FC- which we have since found out means Fault Code and the problem is related to the wiring harness or the power relay board. I saw only one wire behind the stove and it appears to be securely fastened although I will check this again tonight to be 100%. With the power on the stove continues to beep until Cancel is pressed and then the beeping starts again after about 20seconds. When the power is reset (via the breaker) it starts beeping again after about 20seconds. The beeping did not happen as I moved the stove so I don't think it's directly related to that. I'm thinking that I maybe knocked something loose with the steel rule. In short the only thing that happened to the stove was me moving it out from the wall and waggling a steel rule behind it.

My question is, has anyone else had a -FC- problem with a Jennair stove and, if so, what was the problem? I have no qualms calling out a service engineer but I don't want to pay $120 just for the guy to come out and plug in a wire that I have loosened.

Edit: here is the model number -- SVD48600B

    Hi folks,

I have this problem fixed. Apparently when my steel rule was waggling down the back it managed to enter the back panel of the oven, pull a connector off the relay board and bend a couple of pins. I straightened the pins, reconnected the connector and now no -FC- message. I'm pleased that it's fixed but feel like such an ass for "breaking" it in the first place. If nothing else let this serve as a warning to others...be (more) careful than me.

    Cheers, Max

        Max,
I hope I am doing this right. I have never done this before. But was glad to hear you had a solution to your oven issue. We recently moved into a house with the same model oven as you. When we cook, broil in particular, it beeps and gives the F5 code mostly. Yesterday it gave us an F1 code for a change. We have no manual so have no clue what it is trying to tell us. After it does this repeatedly (beep and give the code) it turns off completely, by which I mean there is no power at all-no clock, temperature guage, heat, etc. After a while, it will beep back on. And it does its little beeping and code dance again. We have tried hitting the cancel button and sometimes that seems to stop it--on a good night. Some times it starts the beeping routine again though. Last night we finally had to hit the power via the fuse. We have no idea as to the history of this oven but we will check the connections as you did.

        Thanks a million.

Congrats Max on the repair job!

Katy, here is a link I found to understand the codes on most digital read out stoves:

I also own one of these units and have occasional trouble with the "F" code, which goes away after I shut the power off to it for a evening. Right now I'm attempting to troubleshoot a dim led clock readout that over a weeks time continues getting dimmer, then it disappears, until I once again turn off the power to it. I'm not sure if anyone here might know, but I have 4 vac to the clock assy and was wondering if that is too low?

I am having the exact same problem!!! It started out as the F5 code going off when the oven was on for long periods of time. This went on for about 6 months. Then the clock got dimmer and dimmer and now I can't see it at all.My bake element went out recently too and after I replaced it it takes a very very long time to preheat. Do you think this could be caused by the ERC? I would really appreciate any info on the subject. I am about to go crazy trying to figure this out!! If anyone knows anything i would appreciate any feedback at this point in time:-)
            Thanks, Gena
