Icemaker won't stop making ice.

I have an 8 year old Hotpoint frig/freezer with an icemaker. About 3 months ago I replaced the water valve on the back. Since then my icemaker continuously makes ice. The arm on the icemaker is in the off position but it still makes ice. Another problem that happened at the same time is the icemaker only produces crushed ice. Even when it is set for cubed ice only crushed ice comes out. Any ideas on how I can fix this? Thanks!!!!
