Dishwasher drain clogged?

HELP!!! I am at my wit's end with plumbing issue after plumbing issue.

To explain the sitch.....my garbage disposal broke leaving a heavy stream of water coming from the bottom (you guessed it...insinkerator Badger 1) The sink and draines got clogged because of the stupid disposal *sigh* I was able to get the drains clear and purchased a new garbage disposal. I was thrilled that I'd be able to run my dishwasher again. I ran it, none of dishes came out clean and there is water standing at the bottom. I have a Signature Model 1480. I'm not sure if the dishwasher itself is clogged or if the hose is clogged and wouldn't know what to do even if I did know which it was. Please help me figure out how to fix this. As a single mom of 3, I can't afford to get a plumber out here right now.

Did you remove the plug on the new disposal?
There is a plug that needs to be knocked out were the drain hose connects to the disposal.

Did you get it of the tag on the dishwasher that list the model and serial number?

Do you have any idea how old this dishwasher is?

In your post you stated that you changed the disposal and you did remove the knockout plug in the dishwasher inlet port so that eliminates the obviouse. check the dishwasher drain hose to be sure you did not get a kink in it while hooking it to the new disposal. If there is no kink, then we will have to assume that you have a blockage in the line, which is very common when they are not used for a while. The most common place they plug is near the garbage disposal port. Carefully remove the line and look in the end to see if there is any gummy buildup in the line. If not, reconnect the line, then using both hands grasp the line and bend it slightly. That will loosen or break up and sludge that has dried up in the line. Continue moving along the line a few inches at a time, bending the line and move, bending and moving until you get all the way back to the dishwasher. Once that is done, turn the dishwasher on and rotate the dial to the drain position. with the drain pump running look into the dispoasal to see if the water is flowing. If not, the problem is most likely something caugh in the dishwasher drain pump. Although they are easy to work on, i would not recommend it as a do-it-yourself project.
As far as water standing in the bottom of the dishwasher, than it ok. Dishwashers are designed to retain some water in the sump to absorb heat during the drying cycle, That prevents the heat of the drying element from drying out the seals on the dishwasher pump and motor assembly. Most new dishwasher have a deeper sump and a cover over the sump so the water is not visible, but it is there.
