  • Washer wobbles and makes loud noises

Three years old top loading Kenmore washer wobbles heavily and makes loud noise when in spin mode. If I put a heavy object on it then wobbling and noise reduce a lot.

Somebody suggested to adjust the balancing screws at the bottom (in the legs ) but it did not make any difference.

    What could be wrong ?

The clothes are out of balance inside the machine when it starts to spin out. You need to open up the machine and redistribute the clothes inside so they're not all on one side or the other.

To prevent this in the future, instead of wrapping your clothes around the agitator when you put them in the machine, Just drop your clothes in instead of wrapping them. Think of your washing machines basket as having 4 quadrants. Drop a piece of clothing in each quadrant, then add another piece on top, distributing the clothes evenly throughout the quadrants.

Proper loading and balancing is definitely the first step, howerever, on some washing machines their is an internal spring mechanism called a "snubber Bearing" that partially stabilizes the tub and reduces wobbling and vibration.

If it is an older machine (5 yrs or more) and proper loading doesnt solve your problem you may want to post your make and model number and we can try to determine if you have the snubber bearing and the steps to replace it. Normally the replacement is not difficult and the part is relatively inexpensive.
