Timer Not Advancing on Gas Dryer Auto Dry

Hello.

I have a Maytag Gas dryer, model LDG7600 (converted to propane) that the time is not advancing on auto-dry mode. It works in regular timed mode. The dryer heats ok, but the timer is not advancing.

Any help or diagnostic suggestions is greatly appreciated.

I do not have the specs for a maytag here but I am not certain that the time is supposed to advance in auto-dry mode.

On some dryers during auto dry mode the timer is bypassed and drying time is controlled by a humidistate that is sensing the humidity of the exhaust air flow.

On this model, it does (always has) advanced. Let me explain.

For the "Permanent Press" auto-dry cycle that my wife uses, the dial can be set between "More Dry" and "Less Dry" setting areas. Normally, the dial then moves (counter clockwise) from the "More Dry" area to the "Less Dry" setting and then passes the "Cool Down" setting, then to "Off".

The problem is that now the dial just stays at the "More Dry" setting area and continues to dry indefinetely.

However, when using the timed cycle, it works correctly with the dial moving thru the timed area then to "Off".

Is this a timer problem, thermostat problem, or something else? Any hints or diagnosis procedures would be appreciated.

As a general rule of thumb. If the timer works on one side and not the other, probably the timer's at fault Especially if it's heating and not moving.

I agree with BonesandFeathers. Timer is defective in that specific cycle. Replace that timer and the problem is solved. Also clean out the entire venting system both inside and outside of the machine. Good safety measure and will help the machine work better.
