  • The Dependable Maytag Washer/ DEAD

    Hello,

    Maytag #LAT8606AAE

Every once in awhile I will hold a knife between the door and the lid switch if I want to watch what is in the machine. One must ask why would anyone want to watch water go down? I promise once fixed I will never do this again. Well I did it the other night and the machine died. Nothing works, it is just DEAD? Someone suggested that it may be the lid switch? My husband took it to the parts shop and was told that it may or may not be dead, some of the connections "seemed" to be working. Not sure what they meant my that? They weren't sure if it was totally dead. Is there any way we can tell?
Is the fuse in the lid switch?
    I can't believe a Maytag dies after 5 years...
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you, John's wife
    aka - the laundry lady

It will cost minimum $150 for service call, diagnoses and parts, that's not many parts...
Would it be better to buy a new machine if we can not repair ourselves? Thanks again.

The lid switch is a combination switch and solenoid. It may be three wire or four wire. The solenoid is actuated off the timer when the tub goes into spin cycle locking the door down [so no one gets hurt, specially kids] and might possibly actuate a switch so the spin will start. I'll go look into my service parts area and see if I can find the switch and anything else that goes with it and get back to you.

One your computer go to www.repairparts.com using their "parts detective" insert your washer number and search through their parts - the door switch and latch is on page one. Cost for these is about $20 - there are two listed.

Do you think that is what is causing the problem? What else would cause the machine to just die?
        Thanks, The Laundry Lady
