  • Gas Oven Flames

Just installed a new Gas Frigidair Wall Oven. Converted to propane as per all instructions in manual, Electric glow bar ingnitor, no standing pilot. Air adjustment slot almost wide open as manual suggests for LP. When the oven lites the flames are very long, orange tipped and actually reach up into the oven chamber. Is this an air adjustment issue?

    Thanks for your help.

could be gas pressure. orange tips is insufficient air mix - if the propane is just shooting out of the orifice it isn't getting mixed properly with air. should be blue with an inner lighter blue

Due to the extreme differences in LP and Natural gas pressure, when converting you have to change the Gas regulator orifice. Consult your dealer for the proper orifice to convert your range from Natural to LP or vice versa.

Also consult your owners manual. There are adjustments screws to adjust the flame height on both the burner and pilot flames. The flames should be ajusted so the is just the occassional yellow tip on the flame.

        Thanks for your replies

Per the installation manual, I converted the pressure regulator for use with LP gas by turning the plunger in the regulator upside down. This oven also has an adjustable burner orifice. The manual states:

"using a 1/2" wrench, turn down the adjustable spud approximately 2 1/2 turns until snug against the LP metering pin. Do not overtighten."

Perhaps I didn't turn the spud down enough? Although I worry about overtightening.

Thanks again. I did have to change orifices on my cook top which were supplied. Its working great!

Check your owners manual carefully. Most oven gas controls have burner and pilot adjustment screws. Usually you slip the control knob off and they are on either side of the control shaft. Look for a small recessed flat screw and an embossed letter 'P" or "B" for burner or pilot.

The are used to make final field adjustment of flame height to compensate for fuel pressure or altitude differences at the point of final connection.

Go to gas appliances forum. Moderator there answered your question perfectly. Well explained and well detailed step by step process and all methods to convert. Moderator very well trained and highly skilled too. Right on the $$$$ with answer.

Problem not related to supplied gas pressure. Oven burner orifice needs to be adjusted by screwing it down more onto the gas valve. That closes the hole and reduces the amount of gas that comes out which reduces the flame size.

              Good Luck.
