GE XL44 gas oven with sealed burners, electric ignition. The top burners work fine but the oven doesn't turn on. Didn't pull it away from the wall to disrupt anything. Can't really see the oven gas shutoff valeve GE tells you to look at but why would that suddenly be off anyway?

Top burners use an electronic ignition common to all burners. Oven uses a hot surface resistance element to ignite the gas flow. It is essentially a carbon film element which glows when power is applied. It also incorporates a variable resistance to open the main valve. If it is broken or the resistance changes the main burner will NOT light!
