I have a frigidare oven that will not ignite. The glow plug gets red but that's it. I have changed the valve twice already. The stove works fine. Is it time for a new oven?

In an attempt to correct this immediate problem or just sometime in the past??

In order to properly diagnose a hot surface (ignitor) ignition system you need an ammeter or amprobe. In such a system the ignitor is the most common cause (~85%) of failures. And yes, an ignitor can glow and still be defective.

You can read about various designs of gas oven ignition systems and find some links to test procedures at the following link.

The hot surface ignitor works off the resistance principal to open the main valve. It may glow, but if the resistance of it doesn't significantly change then the main valve won't open. Change the ignitor - costs about $45
