Okay, I'm wondering what's going on with my kitchen. The only thing I can think of is that we have a whole herd of Gremlins.
We started out having chronic problems with the brand new fridge (been through 8 of them since June) and now we're having problems with the coffee maker.
In January, I purchased a Mr. Coffee IS Series. Leaked like a sieve. Called Sunbeam (the makers of Mr. Coffee products) and they laughed a lame "heh heh heh" and informed me that they had some problems with that model and it had been redesigned. They sent me a new one.
A couple weeks later, the new one started having problems with the "sneak a cup" feature--it was hit and miss. Of course, the steam generated from a "miss" screwed up the face of the electronic clock and you could not read it. Called Sunbeam and BAM! another new one was sent my way.
A couple weeks later, that one started having "gee, I really don't feel like making coffee today" issues and would brew 2 of the 12 cups, beep like it was done, then shut itself off. Sunbeam, in their infinite wisdom, sent us another.
So, now we have the newest and bestest of the best, right? Received it about 15 days ago and it also has decided that to expect an entire pot of coffee is just too lofty of a goal for us. It actually takes THREE HOURS to brew the obligatory 2 cups. When I called Sunbeam, they stated that they have sold THOUSANDS of these things and I, apparently, have managed to get nearly all the bad ones ("heh heh heh" he heh heh'd). They are, of course, sending me yet another.
Besides now owning four quirky coffee makers and possessing a lifetime supply of caraffs, I was wondering if anyone else has encountered these problems? This is also not the cheapy of the cheap models of Mr. Coffee coffee makers, and my old one was reliable for 10 years--the sneak a cup feature quit working and that's the only reason why it was replaced. It's also the only reason I bought another Mr. Coffee.
I'm thinking if the newest one craps out, I'm going to have to find me an old priest and a young priest and maybe run holy water through the stupid thing to exorsise the Gremlin.
