  • GE double oven help

I have a GE double convection oven; self cleaning. Model Number jtp56sd1ss. When I try to clean the upper oven everything starts out fine. But after awhile it starts beeping and I see error code F9. From what I gather from some research is that the door is not locking correctly. The thing is the door is locked. So my first question is, has anyone come across this error before and fixed it? And my second question is can I remove the lock and control panel without taking the unit out?

It doesn't necessarily have to mean the door "isn't locked", just that the control (for whatever reason) doesn't know it is.

Checking the locking mechanism, its switches and the wiring circuit between them and the control may be necessary to isolate the cause of the error message on your particular appliance. There may also be a possibility that the problem is in the latch detection circuitry of the electronic control itself.

Even if they had, there's no certainty the cause of their problem was exactly the same as your's is now. There are several things which can cause the same error message as I stated above.

I'm afraid I do not have any experience with that particular model to be able to say but many times a built-in oven only needs to be slid out slightly (6-12") to access the control panel. It may not necessarily need the whole oven totally removed from the enclosure... if needed to be at all.
