  • Badger1 disposal

Hi, I'm new to the board here looking for an answer to a problem that I really haven't seen before... A few weeks ago, I was at the sink and a fuse like from an old fuse box fell into my Badger1 Insinkerator. I looked in there to pull it out for 10 minutes and couldn't find the thing it is so tiny, and my fiance told me just to run the disposal and it would grind up eventually. Well that was a mistake because it didn't completely grind up, and now it sounds like someone threw a million little rocks in the disposal. Today it has started jamming up; I can get it working using the allen wrench and the reset button tricks, but it still grinds like crazy with the broken fuse in there. Since it is a foreign object, it is our fault and we'd be responsible for the repair payments to have someone come fix it. There are no visible pieces to the fuse left in the disposal to take out manually.

Someone please help! What can I do? Thanks in advance, Angie

Even under ordinary circumstances sticking your fingers in a disposal is a very dangerous procedure, even more dangerous here because the foreign object is crushed glass. I would use a shop vac to suck the pieces out.

You may have to run the disposal and repeat the process a few times till you either get it all out with the shop vac or it grinds fine enough to go down the drain. Keep your disposal wrench handy because it will probably jam a couple more times before your done.

Oh, I didn't stick my fingers in there... I know better! I work in food service and run the disposal there... I know what one can do to a spoon or a glass or a finger! I don't have a shop vac, but we tried our house vacuum with the extender. It didn't pull anything up, maybe it's not strong enough. I've also prodded around with a pair of tongs to no avail. I might have to borrow a shop vac and try it.

      Thanks anyways

        Hi,

If there's something grinding and jamming it, it will likely be around the very edges where the grinding takes place. There should be serrated edges there where things can get stuck.

In some cases the turntable/rotating shredder may have to be removed (if possible) to get everything out. It might also be possible to remove the unit, turn it upside down and work the rotor back and forth using the anti-jam wrench to free up foreign matter which will then hopefully fall out.
