  • Ice does not come out.

When I press the lever to eject ice from my Kenmore side by side model number 59592990, nothing happens. I assumed there is a switch near the lever but I couldn't get the front pannel off. It seems like there are some type of clips at the corner of the plastic pannel. I put a screwdriver behind the pannel and I tried to pop it off, but it didn't seem to want to release so I didn't put a lot of pressure on it.

Any advice on helping me with my problem would be appreciated.

The complete model number looks to be 106.59592990 making it a Whirlpool built model.

** I put a screwdriver behind the panel and I tried to pop it off, but it didn't seem to want to release **

You can see an exploded view diagram of your dispenser mechanism at the following link:

On some models the front dispenser cover (drawing item # 23) will peel off. The housing mounting screws may then be able to be accessed, if necessary. You can see the lever activation switches (drawing item # 14) at the link below.

Thanks Dan but what does "peel off" mean? As I said, I tried to force it off with a screwdriver but it didn't want to come off.

That may have been a incomplete description of the process. On some models there are 2 small slots at the bottom of the cover for a screwdriver, etc. to fit into. Those can be used to raise the cover up *slightly*. Once lifted, the cover may be able to be gently pried away from the door from the bottom. Some covers are also held in place with 2-way tape in which case it may have to actually be peeled to get it right off.

I don't know if that is the way yours is designed or not.

Just the insert/cover or the whole housing/frame and everything??? The latter would definitely NOT be able to be pried off, just the label/cover to expose the housing's mounting screws beneath. If you're unsure, it might be prudent to leave it to a professional rather than taking a chance on breaking it?
