I got the disposal to turn and hit the reset button. Now the disposal spins but it's loud...almost like it is rubbing metal. Is there a way that I can open the dispsal and remove the item that is obstructing it?

There are special tools designed to disassemble disposals. I've heard it can sometimes be done without them but I don't know the method used. Sorry. Maybe someone posted a description in the forum previously? Try doing a search.

Obviously whatever caused the original jam is still stuck between the grinder wheel and the disposal body.
1.Unplug the disposal electrical cord.
2. Remove the Disposal body drain connection. (You will be able to see the edge of the cutter wheel in the drain port opening.)
3. Rotate the disposal with the disposal wrench while looking in the drain port. You should see the foreign object come around with the wheel and you will be able to pull it out through the drain opening.
4, replace the drain.
5. Plug the disposal in and test run it.
