  • Badger 1 leaking

I have a Badger 1 under my sink in my apartment. I recently installed a reverse osmosis water system, and now the disposal leaks. I tried to isolate the leak, and I removed the flange that connects the disposer to the drain. It doesn't have any severe angles and fits relatively straight on the disposer. I also looked at the gasket between the flange pipe and the disposer. It looks fine. I tightened it back down and ran it to see where it was leaking. It is not coming from the flange/gasket seat. It looks like it is leaking internally. It only leaks when the disposer is running. I am wondering if I tweaked the tube inside the disposer when I installed the water filter. Is there a way to take it apart and fix it, or do I have to replace the whole unit?

It sounds like the unit's internal seals are leaking. When that occurs, inexpensive disposer models usually get replaced.

There is no way I can see anything you did installing a separate water filter could have caused it. It is likely just coincidence.

The Badger 1 has a 1 year warranty, and a 2 to 5 year life expectancy. I would not lose sleep over it or spend any time or money on it. A new one is under $50.

Thanks for the help. Yeah, after I wrote I started pricing them, and a new one is $60 @ Home Depot. Thanks again.
