garbage disposal unit problem
01-02-2006, 08:42 PM
my garbage disposal unit keeps running after I remove the plug (this unit does noy have a wall switch) it runs for a few minutes and then stops.
Any ideas?

If this is a 'batch feed' model which is turned on using its stopper, that activation switch may be sticking.

So is there a way to unstick it?
Yes it is a batch feed -turned on with the stopper inserted.
Is the switch accessible or is it pressure activated by the insertion of the stopper?

** So is there a way to unstick it? **
The switch would usually need to be replaced in such a case.
** Is the switch accessible **
Usually.
** is it pressure activated by the insertion of the stopper? **
It depends on the exact make and model number of disposal in question.

some switches are magnetic others rely on a button behind the gasket. when you insert the stopped the button is depressed and turns on the unit.
