  • Jenn-air Induction Cartridge cooktop element

We have enjoyed cooking on our induction cartridge for about 20 years, and now it is beginning to fail (small back unit beeps, even with pan on, when turned on, larger unit still works). This cartridge is no longer manufactured, however I found an induction element replacement part from "RepairClinic.Com". Now I need instructions or someone knowledgeable in this area to help me. Any recommendations? Or should I just scrape it and switch to "radiant" element cartridge? We will really miss the induction performance.

Cooking cartridges are usually pretty simple components to work on, I don't know where you'll find any instructions but if you post the cartridge's (and/or whole range/cooktop's) model number, we may be able to find out if a service manual is still available that covers it.

Most people I've come across would do almost anything to keep their induction units going but that is a decision you are going to have to make. I don't know of any reason it couldn't be acceptably repaired as long as the needed part(s) are still available.

Thank you for your thoughts. Repairclinic.com did not have a manual, but I could post a request and see what will develop. I agree, giving up my induction element is painful. Can you address the differences in performance between the radiant or halogen cartridges? I already have a halogen cartridge, and clearly understand how much slower it is compared to the induction, but what about the radiant element? Any thoughts?

A "halogen" element is usually a plain radiant element with an additional halogen bulb which produces heat almost instantaneously. A plain radiant element would usually be slightly slower to heat than a halogen one (although the heat's actual absorbtion into the food being cooked has other factors as well).

You can read about the differences between the most common electric cooktop elements types at the following link:

          Another with the same problem

          Hi all!
I just bought a Jenn Air Induction Cartridge on ebay for $39 and both burners (coils) work fine. The smaller one, the front one on mine, does the same thing and beeps even when a proper pan is in place and it is heating normally.
I've looked for manuals and service notes online too, without sucess so far.

I'm anxious and willing to exchange any clues or info on not only fixing the beep but any info on the cartridge. I love it already.

            ... one just beeps.

I personally wouldn't call that "fine".

I don't know of anything in the rest of the range that would cause a cartridge to act that way (although you've yet to identify the range its being used on) so that would lead me to believe it was a problem in the cartridge itself... which may be why it was being sold?

BTW. You can see an exploded part view of the Jenn-Air A130-F induction cartridge at the following link. As far as I know, it was the only one they ever made.

I don't know how many of the components are still available.
