replacing ge refrigerator ice dispenser arm

Can someone tell me if a novice can change the water/ice dispenser arm on a ge refrigerator? If so, can you tell me how to do so?

do you mean the paddle that opens the ice bin and starts the ice water flow?

if you go to the site WWW.REPAIRCLINIC.COM you can get an idea of what parts you may need and it shows a blown up diagram of the ice mechanism. I changed the same paddle on mine because one side was cracked - mine is a Fridgidaire, Up underneath are two screws that come out. The assembly comes out through the front of the door. attached to it is the water tube and a switch. there is a rubber "director" for the cubes that hooks on three plastic escutcheons.
