Whirlpool Compactor won't stop

My Whirlpool GX900 compactor works fine but when the ram gets back to the top and is supposed to stop, it doesn't. Is this a switch problem?

GX900... is only the very first part of a model number. Did you get it right off the appliance's model and serial number identification tag? That's the only place the complete model will usually be found.
