  • GE Side by Side not dispensing ice

There's plenty of ice, it will not dispense(crushed or cube), the water dispenser works fine. All lights come on but nothing happens.

      Ice Not dispensing

Thanks for the reply. It's not a slide switch, push button, the lights come on but the motor that turns the thing in the ice bucket that moves the ice will not come on. This unit has been used very little.

        Model number?

** GE Side by Side **

I'm afraid that is not enough information to identify the appliance in question. What is needed is its exact model number.

LINK > Sticky: Please include Make and Model # in post

Once you post it we can look up what appliance design you're dealing with to see what components it has that could be responsible for your symptom.

            Auger motor getting power.

That is one of GE's newer electronically controlled refrigerator designs. There have been lots of design issues with them since their introduction.

the motor that turns the thing in the ice bucket that moves the ice will not come on.
Make sure the ice bucket is properly in place.

On GE's new fridge models the ice dispenser auger motor can just freeze up from too much moisture around them. GE came out with a 'boot' to cover it to try to prevent such issues. If you find it frozen up, thaw it and install the boot if not already present.

LINK > Ice Auger Motor Boot

The auger motor (see image below) could have just burnt out. Power to the motor but it not functioning would usually indicate the motor itself is the problem (except for the above instance).

Lastly no power at the auger motor could mean the dispenser control (another electronic board) may be defective and not sending power to the auger motor.

A start will be getting to the auger motor to see if it is at least being powered when activated or not.

Thanks for the info. I'll try the things you've suggested next month when I get back to my 2'nd home.
