  • Maytag MEW6530DDB Convection oven

WHen I try to use the broiler, the element around the convection fac comes on and the broiler element never gets hot? Any ideas would be helpful, it's almost as if the oven is confused.

    Mixed up functions?

    .
Has it ever operated correctly on broil (ie. with the broil element getting red)?

What happens with those elements when set to convection heating?

If it has never worked right and those settings operated exactly opposite, the wiring for the broil and convection elements may just be reversed on the electronic control right from the factory. Other than that I can only think a problem in the electronic control would have to be responsible. As near as I can tell neither of those elements should operate together nor when the other's function is selected.

If just the broil element wasn't working, a problem with the element itself would be the most likely cause. But such a failure shouldn't affect operation of a separate element.

The oven is only a few months old and I've never used the broiler before so it's most likely bad wiring. Hopefully this is not a harbinger of things to come with this oven.

      Thanks for the reply.

That would be my guess since it is just new. Call for service as that is what the warranty is for.

BTW. I recommend a local service company if at all possible rather than one at some 800 number.

Well the oven was wired wrong from the factory. Makes you wonder what else was wrong and how this slipped past quality control. The wire colors were obviously reversed and an inspection, no matter how brief, would have caught this. I'm sorry I'm venting $1200+, I expect better.

Anything made by humans has the possibility for errors.

There are a lot more expensive ovens on the market than that (see the following link) and believe me, even they experience problems too. (We hear even more flack from their owners when servicing them, as you can imagine!)

Glad to hear yours was just a simple problem. Thanks for the follow up.

I've heard horror stories about the high end stuff by Viking and others. Didn't mean to come off complaining... Thanks again
