  • Whirlpool Dryer won't cool down in Cool Dry Mode

HI everyone, I have a model LER6620PQ0 that I just replaced the heating element in this PM.. the wife was happy, but now she say's its not cooling down when it reaches the Cool Dry mode on the timer switch. Any tips on what to check or try?

    TIA Sam

Make sure the heater element's coil isn't shorted to ground (ie. touching its metal housing anywhere) creating a short. That could also cause the element to get warm even with the dryer turned off! Unplug the dryer until it can be looked into.

The main other thing that might need to be checked is to make sure the heater contact of the timer is opening when the timer is getting to the cool down position. Those contacts could be shorted internally or the timer's cam could be worn at the cool down spot and unable to open the contact.

If the dryer wasn't experiencing this symptom before your repair I would suggest you double (and triple) check the work that was done. Unplug the dryer until it can be looked into. Better safe than sorry?
