  • GE Profile warm Regrigerator cold freezer

I am a newbie who needs help, please. I have a GE profile S/S model PSC23SGPA SS that was heated to about 90 deg. in the food comparment this morning. Freezer was cold at 12 vice zero. Turned unit off for 30 min. then powered up and had cold air. Both fridge and freezer now at normal temp. What do I do next?

the food compartment was heated to about 90 deg.
There is nothing in the food compartment which could generate heat besides maybe the lights staying on.

    What do I do next?
Check it out *while the appliance is malfunctioning* to see if you can determine the cause. Looking for problems after they've gone away make things much more difficult... if not impossible.

Thanks Dan O. I spoke with a repair man and he suggested checking for heavy frost buildup in the back of the freezer compartment the next time this problem occurs. He said that the door ice dispenser outlet flap should also be checked as a source of warm moist air getting into the freezer compartment. Do you have any other suggestions that I should try to help determine the cause when the warming problem occurs again? FYI, I fortunately have an extra Fridge to store all the perishables while waiting for the problem to recur.

        Clarify symptoms

None of that would cause the refrigerator compartment to be above room temperature. I of course assume the room the fridge is in isn't "about 90 deg." which you described the interior of the fridge to be? Maybe it's my mistake... unless you were just being facetious when you described the actual symptom.

The ONLY thing that could cause the refrigerator compartment to be above room temperature without affecting the freezer as well would be the light(s) saying on. There is no other heat source specific to that compartment which could result in higher than ambient temperature inside it.

If the refrigerator compartment was just not as cold as it should be (but not above room temperature), there could by any number of possibilities as described at the following link.
