I have an older model GE Nautilus dishwasher (GSD3324F01WW) that isn't draining properly - we removed the white drain hose from the black drain pipe and then the water will drain into a bucket set at a lower height. There was nothing in the drain on the inside of the dishwasher.

It sounds like perhaps your pump has malfunctioned, or there is perhaps a blockage in the drain pipe. When you start the dishwasher, can you hear the pump start up? It should fire for a few seconds as soon as the dishwasher is turned on, to remove residual water. If you can't hear that motor, I'd start on the assumption that the pump has died. If you can hear it, then I'd start looking for blockage in the drain pipe. Whatever you do, before you consider the job done, be sure to return the white drain hose to a looped position! If the loop does not exist you risk vapor from your drain lines (ie: sewer) being able to vent back into your dishwasher.

The pump seems to be working fine, it does turn on and will pump the water out if I lower the hose when draining. We took out what some sites call the piston and nut assembly and it looked like it was very worn and then part of it fell off. Not sure if this part malfunctioning would cause the water not to pump out properly?
